How Brompton Fountain Saved Baby Bonnie

Surgeons performed life-saving surgery on 6-month-old Bonnie-Violet. The family organised a fund-raising event for Brompton Fountain charity, so they could donate as much money as they could to thank the hospital staff for their efforts.

The Brompton Fountain charity, registered in 2005, support thousands of children and young people with serious medical conditions, often life threatening. This support extends to the families of these children, who will also be going through incredibly traumatic times.

These children are under the care of the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, who are the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK. Without The Brompton Fountain the hospital teams within the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, the children’s wards, the outpatient clinics, families and children would not get the support they need. As this kind of life-saving surgery and medical care are not normally supplied by the NHS, every donation really does count.

One very special little girl that needed The Brompton Fountain charity was Bonnie, who was diagnosed with a complex heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot and required open heart surgery at just 6-months-old. The Brompton Fountain provided the vital support, resources, medical equipment and services needed for the surgery. After six hours into the operation, it was a complete success and Bonnie thankfully made a full recovery.

Bonnie’s mother, Amy said, “All the staff were so caring and supportive, and I can go straight to them even now if I am ever worried.”

It just shows how amazing and incredible the work The Brompton Fountain provide. Not just to Bonnie, but to thousands of other children’s lives that they help save every day.

The family of baby Bonnie-Violet held a fund-raising event in their hometown of Colchester, as a way to thank the charity for all they did and to help ensure other families in need would receive the same care.

Our Co-Founders Helen Graham and Darren Leggett also attended this event which was a major success, with donations reaching beyond all expectations.

Helen said: “It felt great to have been a part of such an amazing event for such a wonderful cause. We donated a cheque on behalf of Property Ladder Group, something that both Darren and I was eager to do as we strongly support this fantastic group of people that save the lives of the most vulnerable, our children.”
